Barrington claims 4th straight sectional May 25, 2012 12:00 AM
Aimee Pierce stood between freshmen Jenna Szczesny and Kelsey Muniez encouraging them in their postgame interviews. But this wasn't a typical situation for a sectional championship team. After all, Muniez had only played on the Barrington varsity team for a month and hadn't scored a goal. Szczesny has been on the Fillies' varsity squad, but it has been the playoffs where she has started to become a constant scoring threat. Each freshman scored goals in Barrington's 2-0 victory over Huntley in the Class 3A Rockford Boylan sectional, giving the Fillies a fourth-straight sectional crown.

Elgin’s big 7th does in Barrington May 24, 2012 12:00 AM
When Barrington's Macray Poidomani smashed a 3-run homer to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning into a strong wind to break a 1-1 tie, Elgin could have easily waved the white flag much like the winds did all afternoon. Elgin's Ryan Sitter accounted for the only Maroons' hit up to that point and with the lack of run support all season, Elgin could have started Memorial Day weekend early. But Elgin answered right back with 3 runs in the fifth to tie it and then came the unexpected, granddaddy seventh, where the Maroons rallied for 8 runs on 3 Bronco errors to take a 12-5 comeback win in a Class 4A Larkin regional semifinal.

The Barrington duo won their first three doubles matches on their home courts to stay alive in the front draw and gain a spot in the fourth round of championship bracket play Friday morning. The Mid-Suburban League champs will meet 3-4 seed New Trier (Alex Mang-Arthur Ozga) at 9 a.m. today in Buffalo Grove in what promises to be an entertaining and exciting second day of the 97th state series. Tournament favorites Hinsdale Central and New Trier lead the pack in the team race with 24 and 22 points, respectively, with Lake Forest a surprise at 22 points. Barrington has OT magic against Boylan May 22, 2012 12:00 AM
Barrington's Alex Avers knew exactly where Rockford Boylan goalkeeper Shelby Sonnefeldt was going to be. It just took her a little while to get a shot off. When Avers did get that shot it turned out to be a game-closer, as she drilled it past Sonnefeldt in the second overtime of the Boylan Class 3A sectional semifinal Tuesday. Avers took a pass from Jenna Szczesny in the first minute of the second overtime and put it in the back of the net to give the Fillies a 3-2 win.
