    On Saturday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 3, the 12th annual Showcase of Arts event that exhibits artists from the Midwest, will be held at the Barrington Park District. The exhibition, organized by Barbara Thompson and Kathy Walker, is one of the quality hidden showcases in the Lake County area.

    Fire trucks, construction vehicles, huge tow trucks and more than a dozen other “big trucks” will cruise into Ron Beese Park in Barrington this weekend for the Barrington Park District’s 14th annual Big Trucks event. The event — free this year — takes place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the parking lot of the park, located at 50 Rotary Drive, just off Cornell Avenue.

    Eight Barrington-area residents’ efforts to enhance the quality of life in their community have been recognized through their induction into the Barrington Area Council on Aging’s Hall of Fame. The inductees, honored during a recognition tea at Lake Barrington Woods, were nominated by local service organizations, churches, health care providers, nonprofits, the arts community and local governments.

     
  • Man charged with church molestation also cared for District 220 children May 21, 2013 5:42 PM
    A Willow Creek Community Church volunteer charged earlier this month with molesting an 8-year-old boy in February also worked for a Barrington Park District program that looked after children before and after school. Barrington Unit District 220 Superintendent Tom Leonard announced the connection of 19-year-old Robert Sobczak of Hoffman Estates to the Barrington Park District’s KEEP program which was hosted at the school district’s Arnett C. Lines and Grove Avenue schools.

  • 70 artists featured at Barrington showcase Oct 30, 2010 8:04 PM
    The 9th Annual Showcase of Arts & Treasures will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 7, at the new Langendorf Park Fitness and Recreation Center, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington. The event will showcase approximately 70 artists, including local Barrington talent and others from around the state. Art mediums include photography, architectural drawings, furniture, clay, pottery, fiber, glass, baskets, folk art, jewelry, mixed media and holiday items. This year's featured artist is Anita Peters, whose jewelry is designed with nature in mind. She explores the attributes of natural elements by combining shapes, colors and textures in unexpected ways. She uses many different natural materials including silver, brass, copper, various stones, pearls and crystals. Tropical Smoothies and Riverside Chocolate Factory will offer mouthwatering chocolates, flatbreads, bistro sandwiches and smoothies. The event is 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
