When Allison Cherry stepped onto the Children’s Theatre of Elgin stage in 1992 as a second-grader, she never dreamed that she would one day end up running the show. But 20 years later, Cherry, a 28-year-old teacher at Prairie View Grade School in Burlington, will direct "iSing: Sounds of a New Generation," which will be presented June 21-23 and June 28-30 at the Elgin Community College Arts Center’s Blizzard Theatre.

PALATINE, IL.- More than 100 residents of the west and northwest suburbs held a vigil to commemorate the six-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings last Friday, June 14th at the Palatine Metra station. Gun violence prevention groups from the greater Chicagoland area joined with Northwest Suburbs Organizing for Action (NWSOFA) to honor those victims and 4,800 other Americans murdered since the Newtown massacre, while Congress has failed to enact commonsense measures to reduce gun violence that are supported by 90% of the American people.

The Good Shepherd Center for Cancer Care received the highest level of recognition for eight evaluation areas: cancer committee attendance, clinical trial accrual, cancer registrar education, public reporting of outcomes, College of American Pathologists protocols, nursing care, abstracting timeliness and submission/accuracy of data.

St. Viator was best represented in this year’s Class A all-star game at Sandburg in Orland Park on June 6 as Mike Julius, Dan O’Malley, Andrew Romano, Billy Spingola and Peter Trunk were selected to the team. O’Malley had a hat trick to lead the Black team, which was coached by St. Viator’s Bill Sanford, to a 16-8 victory over the White team.

Palatine Gun violence prevention groups from the greater Chicagoland area will be partnering with the OFA chapters to unite for honoring those victims tragically lost. 4,800 additional Americans murdered since the Newtown massacre, while Congress has failed to enact commonsense measures to reduce gun violence that are supported by 90% of the American people. Representative Peter Roskam, who will be a key player in deciding whether Congress will act on gun violence prevention, has been invited to attend but has not yet responded.

ECC Relay For Life honors, remembers those touched by cancer Jun 12, 2013 12:00 AM
Elgin Communitiy College will hold its 11th Relay For Life fundraiser from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, the culmination of a year of fundraising for the American Cancer Society. About 200 walkers will participate with several hundred more people expected to take part in games and activities along the side of the track. An opening ceremony will start at 7 p.m. Friday in the Visual and Performing Arts Center and Spartan Events Center parking lots at ECC, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
