    Elk Grove senior pitcher David Camacho completed a perfect run through his Mid-Suburban League opponents, tossing a complete-game 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts as the Grenadiers wrapped up regular-season league play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Conant on Monday. Camacho improved to 7-1 overall and finished 6-0 against MSL foes. He allowed 2 walks. Luc DiMaso did most of the damage offensively for Elk Grove (21-8, 12-4). He had 2 hits — a solo homer and a double — and scored both runs. Michael Anciulis also had 2 hits, including a double.

    Perfect finish for Dolezal, Barrington in MSL May 13, 2013 12:00 AM
    Perfection was the word of the day for Barrington's softball team. The Fillies ended a perfect season in the Mid-Suburban West with a perfect game from sophomore pitcher Keenan Dolezal. Dolezal retired 21 straight batters before the Fillies got her the win in bottom of the seventh inning at the Fields of Dreams. Barrington junior first baseman Katie Dehnert's hard infielder grounder with two outs and the bases loaded brought home Erin Ward with the winning run. The 1-0 victory gave Barrington its first West crown since 2009 and 16th divisional crown in school history.

    It seemed like an eternity for John Roncone, but his tennis team from Barrington is back on top for the first time since 2010. The Broncos lifted the Mid-Suburban League championship trophy on a cold, windy Saturday afternoon at host Wheeling thanks to supremacy at doubles and steady work at singles, particularly from No. 3 champ Zach Hennenfent. Barrington outscored Fremd by 14 points, 61-47. Prospect took third with 34.

    Barrington takes the lead, tops Fremd May 11, 2013 12:00 AM
    Barrington had grown tired of playing second fiddle. For the five years previous, the Fillies girls water polo program had advanced to the sectional championship round — only to see Fremd earn a spot in the Elite Eight at Stevenson. On Saturday in Fremd's pool, the roles were reversed as Barrington edged the Vikings 12-10. It was sweet music indeed for the Mid-Suburban League champs.

    Palatine was strong from start to finish. The Pirates made a statement with a victory in the opening 3,200 relay (9:22.65) and closed the meet with a bang, taking first in the 1,600 relay (4:04.26). In between, host Palatine made the most of its opportunities in cruising to the sectional title with 116.5 points.Barrington took second with 74 points, followed by Warren (66 points), Wheeling (46 points), and Lake Forest (42 points).

    Fremd’s talent rises to the top May 10, 2013 12:00 AM
    The Fremd boys track and field team has a group of talented athletes from top to bottom. In Friday's Mid-Suburban League championship meet at Hoffman Estates, the Vikings showed just how deep a group they are. Despite finishing first in only two events, Fremd was still able to win the MSL title by edging Barrington, who finished second, by a score of 105-93.

    Trailing 8-2 after five innings, Schaumburg's softball team scored 9 runs in the top of the sixth to pull out an 11-8 victory over visiting Conant in the Mid-Suburban League game. Senior Hannah Kerr (6-2) earned the win for the Saxons, who improved to 16-8 and 8-7.

    It will be Barrington and Fremd competing for the Fremd girls water polo sectional championship and a spot in the state's Elite Eight at 11 a.m. Saturday. Getting there was anything but easy for the top-seeded Fillies, who got quite a challenge from Conant in Friday's semifinal.

    Senior catcher Mike Dolan homered, finishing with 3 hits and 5 RBI to help Rolling Meadows top visiting Barrington 10-4 on Thursday in what turns out to be a preview of next week's Mid-Suburban League championship game. The victory improved the Mustangs' record to 12-1 in the MSL East, 2 games ahead of Elk Grove with one league game left for both teams.

    It all adds up for Palatine May 9, 2013 12:00 AM
    It was worth the wait for the Palatine boys volleyball team. The Pirates were supposed to host undefeated Barrington a week ago Tuesday, but an electrical problem forced the closing of the school building and the postponement of the match until Thursday. And in a wild scene reminiscent of the state final tournament, Palatine defeated visiting Barrington 25-15, 21-25, 25-23 in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd to earn a share of the Mid-Suburban West crown with the Broncos. Both teams finished with 9-1 division records and split their season series, each match going three games. But the Pirates will advance to Wednesday's MSL championship match at Rolling Meadows game based on a point differential of just 1.

    Eleven Northwest suburban high school students have been chosen from among of 15,000 outstanding students nationwide for the prestigious Merit Scholar designation, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced. The 11 are among 2,500 scholars from across the country to earn the distinction, as well as a $2,500 scholarship, through the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

  • A winning MO for Barrington May 8, 2013 12:00 AM
    Barrington seniors Maggie O'Hara and Morgan Olszewski have similar initials of M.O. That could stand for More Offense'. Because like their teammates, they are both always looking to provide more.O'Hara belted her fourth homer of the season in the sixth inning of Game 1 against Schaumburg on Wednesday and was the only player in the game with multiple hits. The right fielder went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI as the Fillies won 7-1 in a game that had been postponed in the fifth inning last week because of lightning. Olszewski got on base twice in the regularly-scheduled Game 2, including an RBI single in the Fillies' 3-run third inning. The left fielder later scored the Fillies' final run in a 7-0 shutout.

    Pfeiffer stars as Barrington repeats in MSL May 8, 2013 12:00 AM
    Under the bright lights at center stage, Molly Pfeiffer helped Barrington steal the show Wednesday night in the 24th annual MSL Soccer Cup. The Fillies senior had a hand in both goals while turning in a commanding 80-minute effort to lift Barrington to an impressive 2-0 victory over Buffalo Grove. It's the Fillies' second consecutive conference title and third in four seasons.
