Barrington village officials remain far from convinced that their long-running relationship with the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District will end on New Year's Eve. But if it does, the directions for a smooth transition for both agencies already are laid out clearly in their current intergovernmental agreement, Barrington Village Manager Jeff Lawler said Wednesday.

Four people were injured following a carbon monoxide leak near Mundelein, authorities said Monday. Officials from the Countryside Fire Protection District said a resident from the 19000 block of Hoag Court contacted the fire district about 11 a.m. Sunday complaining of carbon monoxide sickness.

Local fire departments launch “Keep the Wreath Red” program Nov 26, 2012 12:00 AM
Several area fire departments including the village of Barrington and the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District are participating in a "Keep the Wreath Red" program, a public awareness initiative that encourages residents to prevent fires caused by seasonal decorations. Festive wreaths hanging at fire stations will begin the holiday season illuminated with red bulbs. Any fire caused by decorations will be changed to a white bulb.

Both a resident of a Lake Barrington senior living facility whose apartment started on fire Thursday night and her caregiver were treated and released from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital after escaping the burning room together. Barrington firefighters were called to Lake Barrington Woods at 22320 Classic Court in Lake Barrington at 9:09 p.m. Thursday.
