  • Man charged with DUI after driving into Barrington Hills pool Jul 31, 2014 10:52 AM
    A Schaumburg man escaped injury but was charged with drunken driving after his car plunged into the swimming pool behind a Barrington Hills home early Thursday morning. Bikramjit S. Sian, 30, was pulled from the water by the home's owner after crashing into the pool, police said.

    Nearly six months after their acrimonious breakup, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District and the Barrington Fire Department have reached an automatic aid agreement governing when, how and where each will respond to emergencies in the other’s jurisdiction. The deal was ratified by both sides Monday evening.

    An imminent upgrade of Barrington's fire insurance rating is being hailed by village officials as validation of their fire department's realignment after the Jan. 1 split from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District. Effective Aug. 1, the Insurance Services Office will upgrade the village's public protection classification from a 4 to a 2 — putting it in the top 1.5 percent of all fire departments in the U.S., according to the village.

    Barrington’s fire chief is publicly questioning the procedures of the recently formed Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District’s department after a recent house fire just blocks from the village’s border. Chief Jim Arie said his firefighters could have made it to the scene of the April 9 fire at 1025 S. Grove St. in nearly half the time that it took Barrington Countryside, but were never alerted to the blaze.

  • Barrington fire district saves money on vehicles Mar 3, 2014 6:33 PM
    Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees recently authorized an innovative apparatus upgrade program that will allow the district to procure two front-line emergency vehicles for less than the cost of a single new engine, saving taxpayers nearly $150,000, officials said. The plan calls for the district to modify an existing 2,000-gallon tanker to serve as an advanced life-support-equipped fast attack fire engine/pumper. The modifications will cost about $55,000.

     
  • Barrington fire district buys new fire engine Jan 29, 2014 4:14 PM
    Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees this week authorized the $425,000 purchase of a new fire engine they say will improve firefighters’ ability to protect residents. The purchase is part of a long-planned effort to upgrade the BCFPD’s fleet of emergency vehicles without raising taxes, officials say. The new engine, made by Florida-based E-One, will be delivered in the fall.

    The Barrington Fire Department and Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District went their separate ways as scheduled New Year's Day — but not without some last-minute miscommunications. Even though the 48-square-mile fire district received 19 firefighters laid off by the village of Barrington at the stroke of midnight, those firefighters weren't allowed to bring their individually fitted safety gear with them.

    Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees have approved the purchase of a new water tanker vehicle that will improve the district’s ability to deliver water to areas of its jurisdiction that do not have fire hydrants, officials announced. The 3,000-gallon tanker recently arrived at district headquarters and will begin service Jan. 1, when the district launches operations independent of the village of Barrington’s fire department.

     
  • Fire districts reach deal on Inverness coverage Dec 17, 2013 10:25 AM
    The Barrington Countryside and Palatine Rural fire protection districts have reached a deal in their long-stalled negotiations toward an automatic-aid agreement for the west side of Inverness. Barrington Countryside trustees Monday unanimously approved the pending agreement that would have Palatine Rural automatically respond to that area of their jurisdiction, which is closer to Palatine Rural's fire station than either of their own.

     
  • Barrington fire district adds three battalion chiefs Dec 9, 2013 5:27 PM
    With barely three weeks before it formally launches its own fire department Jan. 1, the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District announced Monday it has hired three battalion chiefs to oversee operations, two of them who until recently served as lieutenants with the Barrington Fire Department. The new hires — Ron Eilken, Scott Motisi and Jeff Tress — will each command one of the fire department’s three 24-hour shifts. They bring to the district 59 combined years of fire service experience.

    Staying composed and hitting free throws were key for Barrington’s girls basketball team on Friday afternoon. Balanced scoring was also a plus, as the Fillies had three players score in double-figures — Megan Talbot (16 points and 6 rebounds), Angie Kirchoff (15 and 8 boards) and Bailee McDonald 11 (points). It all added up to nice Barrington victory, as the Fillies got past a stingy Grayslake Central team 56-49 at the Bison Classic in Buffalo Grove. The Fillies (4-0) made 18 of their 21 free throws.
