    Rookie pitchers Michelle Gascoigne and Ivy Renfroe faced off in the circle Saturday night for the first time since they competed against each other in the 2013 Women’s College World Series. Gascoigne and the host Bandits prevailed to win Game 3 of the series 7-1.

Tammy Williams delivered 3 of the hits and scored twice to pace the Bandits (13-4), who rebounded from a loss to the Comets (3-15) on Wednesday to make a winner of starter Andi Williamson (4-0).

    The Chicago Bandits launch the 2013 National Pro Fastpitch softball season Wednesday at home against the Akron Racers. Even though ace pitcher Monica Abbott, 2012 team home run leader Megan Wiggins, and newly acquired Japanese league stars Eri Yamada and Kazuki Watanabe won't be back from Japan until later this week, the team looks to start off aggressive and chase its third championship in six years.

    The Chicago Bandits have signed Maggie Hull, the club's third-round pick in the 2013 NPF Senior Draft. Hull, who was the No. 11 overall selection in the draft, played at Kansas and led the Big 12 Conference in 2012 with a .409 batting average.

    Michael Steuerwald will return as head coach of the Chicago Bandits for the 2013 season, team officials announced Friday. Joining him as an assistant will be Jimmy Kolaitis, currently an assistant at the University of South Alabama softball team.

    Two Japanese softball standouts, Eri Yamada and Kazuki Watanabe, have signed contracts to play with the Chicago Bandits and join the National Pro Fastpitch League. Yamada led Japan to a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, and Watanabe helped Team Toyota win back-to-back Japan Softball League championships in 2011 and 2012.

    Jolene Henderson, Michelle Gascoigne, Maggie Hull, Raven Chavanne, Mel Dumezich and Jenna Marston were selected by the Chicago Bandits in the 2013 NPF Draft held in Nashville. Henderson,a University of California standout, was the top pick by the Bandits and third overall in the 2013 NPF Draft.

    With back-to-back Pitcher of the Year titles in hand, Chicago Bandits ace Monica Abbott has re-signed for the 2013 season, general manager Aaron M. Moore announced Friday. "Monica is the exact definition of an Ace and we're thrilled to have her back," Moore said. "Monica wants the ball when the game is online and I think her teammates feed off of her emotion in the circle."

     
  • Chicago Bandits bring back catcher Butler Jan 10, 2013 11:21 AM
    The Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch league have re-signed catcher Kristen Butler for the 2013 season, team officials announced this week.“We are happy to have Kristen back with us,” Bandits general manager Aaron M. Moore said. “Kristen provides some much-needed pop from the right side of the plate for us and she also brings a nice veteran presence. We’re looking for her to at least duplicate what she did in 2012. If she does that, our lineup will continue to get stronger.”

    With a steady rain coming down all night, Game 2 of the National Pro Fastpitch Championship game between the Chicago Bandits and USSSA Prude was washed out, and NPF officials were in discussions to cancel the rest of the 2012 series.

    With superstar pitchers Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman locked in a pitching duel, the Chicago Bandits captured Game 1 of the NPF Championships Series with a 2-1 victory over the USSSA Pride. Game 2 is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday. If the Pride wins Game 2, the two teams will meet for a decisive Game 3 at 6 p.m. Sunday.

    The Chicago Bandits, the defending National Pro Fastpitch Champions, are headed back to the finals. The Bandits eliminated the Carolina Diamonds in Game 2 Friday night with a 5-1 victory at The Ballpark at Rosemont with Monica Abbott coming on in relief to seal the win.
