Judge Raymond Collins declared Billy Varner “a real and present threat to the people of Illinois” after hearing prosecutors outline how they believe he killed his mother and wife.

Mathis, 23, of the 24000 block of Nicklaus Way in unincorporated Antioch Township, faces up to 15 years in prison after he was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance following his arrest on Sept. 28 at 2:45 a.m., Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville said.

    The trial for an Antioch Township man accused of killing his longtime girlfriend nearly one year ago has been postponed for a third time. Michael Axtell, 42, remains held in Lake County jail in lieu of $3 million bail on three counts of first-degree murder for the slaying of his 40-year-old ex-girlfriend, Tammy Stone. The new trial date is Jan. 6.

Lake County Judge Raymond Collins ordered Jeremy Betancourt’s bond lowered from $250,000 to $100,000, despite prosectors filing an additional charge of aggravated driving under the influence.

    The village of Antioch and the Antioch Rescue Squad, which recently severed a relationship after 73 years again are at odds. The village issued a cease and desist order involving what it said were misleading and illegal claims involving emergency service.
