With votes counted from the last outstanding Des Plaines precinct, what had been a close contest turned into a clear victory Wednesday for newcomer candidate Denise Rodd, who was elected to represent Des Plaines’ 3rd Ward over former 1st Ward Alderwoman Patricia Beauvais.

Aurora’s far southeast and far northeast wards will be represented by new faces — Edward Bugg and Lynne Johnson — for the next four years, while Bob O’Connor retained his at-large seat on the city council in unofficial results from Tuesday’s election. Bugg beat Marge Linnane 393 votes to 313; Johnson topped Judd Lofchie 634 votes to 419; and O’Connor tallied 5,591 votes to top Rick Lawrence, who got 2,714 in unofficial results.

The Des Plaines Electoral Board on Monday removed Gregory Sarlo's name from the April 9 ballot, determining he fell just short of the number signatures needed to run for city alderman. Of the 72 signatures on Sarlo's nominating petition, 19 were found to be invalid, leaving him seven signatures shy of meeting the 60 required, the board ruled, finding in favor of objector Brian Burkross.

Des Plaines mayoral candidate staying on ballot Jan 24, 2013 12:00 AM
Des Plaines 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten will be able to run for mayor in April after all. The city's electoral board Thursday dismissed an objection against Walsten's candidacy after the resident who filed it, Carl Mauter-Hollenbeck, voluntarily rescinded the challenge. Walsten's name will appear on the April 9 ballot along with two others vying for the mayoral post.

New hearing set for Des Plaines candidates facing objections Jan 11, 2013 12:00 AM
The Des Plaines electoral board determined Friday that any decision involving the validity of signatures on the candidate petitions of mayoral hopeful Mark Walsten and 5th Ward aldermanic challenger Gregory Sarlo will come only after the Cook County Clerk’s Office checks the names against its voter records. The objections primarily question whether the signatures on the petitions were of genuine registered voters, whether addresses provided were of voters residing within the city or appropriate ward boundaries, and whether some signatures are duplicates.

Annunziato “Nunzio“ Pulice decided not to seek to re-electon as a Wood Dale alderman to make a run to become mayor. His political gamble paid off on Tuesday night — but just barely. With all 16 precincts reporting, Pulice bested three-term incumbent Kenneth Johnson by only 50 votes in a race that focused on water rates, flooding and a controversial underpass plan. According to unofficial results, Pulice received 1,202 votes and Johnson tallied 1152 votes.
