    Two new associate judges recently were named for the 16th Judicial Circuit. Alice Tracy and Elizabeth Flood, who have served as Kane County assistant state's attorneys for more than 30 years combined, will be assigned to one of the branch court locations in either Aurora, Elgin or St. Charles by the end of the month.

    John G. Dalton of Elgin is the newest judge in Kane County. Voters picked the 51-year-old Democrat and Elgin Community College trustee Tuesday over Republican John Walters, a former Elgin city council member who was appointed to the bench earlier this year. Dalton had run for judge before but lost.

"I've been dedicated to the Kane (judicial) system" throughout her career, making it her top priority, Brawka said. "I intend to be that way as chief judge too."

In that capacity he serves about 15 families, ministering to them when needed. John also was elected by the congregation to represent us on the Church Council as an at-large member. He is a valuable member of this group, and his wise counsel is important in guiding the church.

CASA Kane County hopes sponsorships and naming opportunities at the garden can boost its endowment fund. Officials also say the garden will provide a place for residents and court personnel to relax and reflect.

    CASA Kane County is in the stretch run of creating a $1.5 million endowment, and part of it includes building a "healing garden" on the west side of the old courthouse on Third Street in Geneva. Constructon will begin July 1 and wrap up in about six weeks. People and businesses can sponsor benches and buy bricks.

    When a committee studying whether to allow cameras in Kane County courtrooms retreated behind closed doors last week, it was a little like a jury going to deliberate. In this case, the deliberations led to a decision to move forward with plans allowing cameras and other recording devices to capture court proceedings.

    John Walters won the Republican nomination for a residential judges seat serving the 16th Judicial Circuits second subcircuit in Elgin, according to unofficial results Tuesday. With 2,838 votes, Walters defeated fellow Elgin resident John Hurlbut, who received 1,967 votes, for the partys nomination to a judicial post signed into law last September by Gov. Pat Quinn. He will face Democrat John Dalton in the November general election.
