Celebrating Lent: Aurora Methodists host 'Soul Reset' book study

Celebrating Lent, Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora launched three study groups Feb. 21 exploring "Soul Reset," a book by the Rev. Junius B. Dotson. The late UMC general secretary of discipleship ministries died Feb. 24 of pancreatic cancer.

The Aurora studies opened Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 23-24, on Zoom. Ron DeBaun of Batavia, Flowing Forth lay leader, and the Rev. Derek Rogers, Flowing Forth pastor, are study leaders.

On Thursday, Feb. 25, Tom Carter of Aurora, Flowing Forth discipleship leader, launched an in-person study at Luigi's Pizza in Aurora.

The hourlong studies continue evenings on the next five Tuesdays through Thursdays leading up to Easter April 4. Video segments and readings are included.

Opened with a session on assessment, the series continues with sessions titled "Feel the Feelings," "It's Not All on Me," "Take Care of Yourself," "What to Do with Grief" and "Living in the Light."

Rev. Rogers said, "The study is for anyone who moves at breakneck speed through their daily lives, often relying on their own strength. 'Soul Reset' is a call for Jesus' disciples to reset and reorder their lives around spiritual practices, to learn to walk through difficult seasons with souls connected to the source of abundant life."

For use with "Soul Reset," the Rev. Rogers released a 32-day Bible reading plan including scriptures from the apostle John.

The Rev. Dotson served as senior pastor of St. Mark UMC in Wichita, Kansas, before joining UMC discipleship ministries, an international UMC agency.

Flowing Forth UMC offers online worship services on the church website, Facebook and YouTube. Call (630) 239-2321 or visit flowingforthumc.org for more information.
