Lavelle Law hosts cybersecurity event for small businesses Dec. 7

Monday, Dec. 7 is Cybersecurity Check-Up Day and Schaumburg-based Lavelle Law is hosting a virtual event to help small businesses analyze their cybersecurity practices to make sure they aren't vulnerable to an attack.

The virtual event beginning on Dec. 7 will be hosted by attorney Taylor Lemick, who leads Lavelle Law's Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Practice Group.

Lemick will provide free, 30-minute, one-on-one video conferences throughout the day to discuss cybersecurity needs for businesses. Lemick will also cover cybersecurity FAQs, including what makes small businesses vulnerable to cyberattacks and how they can implement effective, low-cost practices to secure their data.

"According to the FBI, the cost of cyberattacks in 2019 exceeded $3.5 billion," Lemick noted. "Very often, small businesses are easy targets, but there are simple strategies they can put in place to protect their business and customer data."

"Cyberattacks are on the rise and they can be very costly, especially for small businesses," said Managing Partner Ted McGinn. "It's important for business owners to take action now so they don't find themselves in the middle of a lawsuit and negative PR after a data breach occurs."
