Or Shalom to host virtual concert July 22

A plethora of musical talent from the Jewish world will perform a virtual concert hosted by Congregation Or Shalom in Vernon Hills at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. Among the participants will be Or Shalom cantorial soloist/Zemer Laurie Akers.

After earning her degree in musical theater from the University of Michigan, Deerfield resident Akers performed in regional and Broadway national touring productions for more than a decade.

She spent a year as Miss USO, entertaining veterans and U.S. troops before spending a year in New York, where she created and implemented a musical program for New York City's Young Adult Institute, which provides recreational opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities.

She also spent two years as the interim cantorial soloist at Temple Sholom of Chicago. Akers also served as the sh'liach tzibur - the representative of the congregation - and musical director for the Makom organization before joining the Or Shalom family.

Waukegan resident Kenzie Hayes and Chicago resident Cathy Glickman are also performing in this concert.

All are welcome to attend, but reservations are required. The suggested donation is $18 per person. To RSVP, visit www.bit.ly/orshalomathon.
