Elmhurst Hospital frontline workers receive 150 pizzas from Big G's Pizza, thanks to Kellogg donation

Big G's Pizza, delivers 150 piping, hot delicious pizzas to Elmhurst Hospital thanks to the generosity of Kellogg's Away From Home, a division of The Kellogg Company located in Elmhurst.

Big G's has delivered 1,242 pizzas to date to 38 Chicago area hospitals and clinics made possible by 330 donations, since March 21. The donation from Kellogg's Away from Home division is the largest to date. Owner Jaime Gamez made the first donation and took to social media making a plea for support not only for his workers so that he could stay afloat, but for those caring for people being treated for COVID-19 at area hospitals.

"I just want to say thank you to all of the health care workers for all that they are doing and to the communities for donating," said Gamez. "It is through these donations that we can show our appreciation to health care workers on the frontline while helping us keep our nose above water so that we can get through this together."

Gamez asked for additional donations via social media which would not only feed the many people who are working tirelessly at area hospitals but allow his employees to remain on the payroll. Historically, approximately 70 percent of Big G's sales are on the weekend when the bars are open. The restaurant also heavily relies on foot traffic from the Cub's season which remains uncertain.

"As a member of the Elmhurst business community, Kellogg is proud to join restaurant owner Jaime Gamez in showing our appreciation for the frontline health workers at Elmhurst Hospital," said Wendy Davidson, President, Kellogg's Away From Home. "At this unprecedented time, I've been heartened by the tremendous outpouring of support within our surrounding communities where our employees live and work."

Kellogg is also the presenting sponsor of the Northern Illinois Food Bank's Seventh Annual Foodie 5K and helped the organization pivot and transform the June 6 event to virtual races. The Foodie 5K is a critical fundraiser for the food bank.
