'Rock 'n' Roll Storytime' comes to Green Read book store Aug. 28

The Green Read book store in historic downtown Crystal Lake has partnered with Rock 'n' Kids to present "Rock 'n' Roll Storytime" at 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The "Rock 'n' Roll Storytime" program presents classic and popular new children's books in a fun, energetic format. Rock 'n' Kids owner and instructor Jamie Puffpaff will engage the children with music, instruments, and props as she presents "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.

"Having Rock 'n' Kids tell a story while incorporating music and movement brings something different to story time. We've done this program in libraries and park districts throughout the Chicago area, and children love the musical, hands-on approach to storytelling," Puffpaff said.

A locally owned business, Rock 'n' Kids has been providing programs and parties to children ages 1 to 5 years of age since 1995.

The Green Read opened last November as a project of the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County.

Located at 61 N. Williams St., it offers primarily used books, but also carries some new books and products, as well as hosting special events such as "Rock 'n' Roll Storytime."

"The Environmental Defenders is thrilled to have had the opportunity to open this second used book store this past November. Selling used books aligns perfectly with our mission to "Advocate - Educate - Protect" and the book store raises awareness of our organization," said Pam Johnson, manager of The Green Read.

Rock 'n' Roll Storytime program is free, however donations are gratefully accepted.

Space is limited and registration is required. To sign up, email thegreenreadbookstore@gmail.com.
