Cooling centers open in Aurora

With prolonged exposure, temperatures this high could lead to heat-related illness. The elderly, children and pets are especially susceptible.

The City of Aurora is encouraging residents to:

• Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids

• Limit outdoor activity, especially during peak afternoon times

• Wear and reapply sunscreen if you must go outside

• Wear loose, lightweight clothing

• Check on family, friends and neighbors

• Keep pets out of the heat and in a cool place

For those in need of an air-conditioned facility, these cooling centers are available in Aurora:

• Santori Public Library of Aurora, 101 S. River St., 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday

• Aurora Public Library- West Branch, 233 S. Constitution Drive, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 2 to 6 p.m.; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Tuesday and Thursday; 2 to 6 p.m. Friday.

• Aurora Public Library - Eola Branch, 555 S. Eola Road, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday

• The Salvation Army, 437 E. Galena Blvd., 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weather-related emergencies should be reported to 911 immediately.
