'Proverbial Opera' summer sermon series continues July 7

At Elgin's First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Rick Carlson continues the nine-part summer message series entitled "Proverbial Opera," an exploration of King Solomon's wisdom illustrated by arias from the world's great operas. Each week, a performer will sing a selection from the works of Puccini, Mozart, Offenbach and others.

The series is presented in collaboration with Solange Sior and Fox Valley Lyrical Productions (formerly Soiree Lyrique).

Worshippers are in week four of the summer message series "Proverbial Opera." The text for Rev. Rick Carlson's message is Proverbs 14:10. The message will be illustrated with the flower duet from the Delibes opera "Lakme," sung by Solange Sior, soprano and Karen Archbold, mezzo-soprano. Service time is 9 a.m.

First United Methodist Church of Elgin is located at 216 E. Highland Ave. Free parking is available is the parking deck across the street. The church is handicap accessible.
