The Victor Wooten Band plays the ECC Arts Center April 20

Five-time Grammy Award-winning bass player, producer, composer, author, and educator Victor Wooten, his band, and a select group of students will perform at the Elgin Community College on Saturday, April 20.

The evening will begin at 7 p.m. at the Arts Center, Building H, 1700 Spartan Drive. The evening also will feature the ECC Jazz Combo.

Known for their funky and jazzy music and powerful, unpredictable performances, The Victor Wooten Band will play a dynamic mixture of old and new music mixed with improvisational jams and classic cover songs.

In addition, fellow musicians and educators Steve Bailey, Bob Franceschini, Bob Hemenger, and a select group of students from Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature will also perform.

The Wooten Woods Experience tour will provide a glimpse into the magic that happens at Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature.

Victor Wooten began playing music at the tender age of 2 years old.

Under the tutelage of his older brother Regi, Victor was playing and touring with the family band by the age of 5.

The Wooten brothers performed with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, War, and the Temptations, among others. Rolling Stone Magazine lauded Victor, a founding member of the supergroup Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, by noting, "Every player in the Flecktones is a master, but when Wooten busts out a solo at a concert every jaw in the audience drops to the ground."

An accomplished musician, Wooten is also a skilled naturalist who created Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature, a 147-acre camp retreat in Tennessee for people of all ages.

Through highly interactive programs on topics such as music, nature, community, and creativity, Wooten aims to enhance students' abilities with tools that can be used to enrich their personal lives.

Wooten has spoken and taught at schools, universities, conferences, and spiritual centers around the world.

Tickets to "The Victor Wooten Band: The Wooten Woods Experience" are $35-$48.

Enjoy a pre-show dinner at 5 p.m. at ECC's Spartan Terrace Restaurant. It will feature a menu with a garden salad, smoked ham chop with pineapple and mustard sauce, Mac-n-Cheese, vegetable and a dessert. Cost for the pre-show dinner is $26.10- $29.
