St. Pat's 5K Run/Pet Parade March 17 to benefit Anderson Animal Shelter

Sign up for the St. Pat's Day 5K and 1-Mile Pet Walk/Parade on Sunday, March 17, to benefit Anderson Animal Shelter.

Put your green on and join the annual run/walk along the Fox River Trail at SEBA Park, 50 W. State St. in South Elgin.

The 5K begins at 10 a.m. with the 1-mile pet walk/parade at 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. event will use an alternate route so runners will not be impeded.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt and custom finishers medal as well as a swag bag filled with fun items. The 5K event will be chip timed.

It features a T-shirt, finisher's medal, goody bag, raffle, food and drinks, and awards.

The course will start at SEBA Park and follow the Fox River Bike Trail South along the beautiful Fox River and local forest preserve. There is plenty of free parking.

Everyone will receive finisher medals. The top three male and female winners in their respective age group also will receive a recognition pin to attach to the race medal lanyard. You must be present at the ceremony to receive your medal.

The packet pickup will be Saturday, March 16.

Early bird registration for the 5K is $30 through Feb. 17; there is a no swag-no T-shirt option for $20. Cost for the pet walk/parade is $25. To register, find the event page on Facebook.

According to the shelter's December newsletter, its "paws-itive" impact in 2018 includes:

• 3,600 (and counting) homeless dogs and cats received care;

• 5,000-plus school-aged children took part in our humane education programming;

• Twenty one human service agencies were visited by Healing Paws Pet Therapy program volunteers;

• Twenty-seven veterans welcomed new furry family members into their homes through the shelter's Military Veterans Program.

Anderson Animal Shelter has been saving lives and serving the Fox Valley region for more than 50 years. The shelter was incorporated in 1966 as the Humane Society of North Central Illinois. In 1971, the current shelter opened its doors on five acres of land along Route 31 in South Elgin. In the 1980s, a generous donation from the Ivar and Ruth Anderson Anti-Cruelty Trust prompted a name change to Anderson Animal Shelter. The 501(c)3 nonprofit organization now has two other adoption centers at 180 N. Randall Road in North Aurora and 412 W. Army Trail Road in Bloomingdale.

Anderson Anderson Shelter receives no federal and state funding. They rely on and appreciate the generosity of adopters, staff, volunteers, foster caregivers, community members and businesses to support its mission.
