Dec. 3-4: Auditions for CLC spring production of 'Oedipus Rex'

Actors age 14 and above are invited to audition for the College of Lake County's spring production of "Oedipus Rex." Auditions start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 and Tuesday, Dec. 4 in the Studio Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, on the Grayslake Campus.

Those auditioning should prepare one 90-second to two-minute, memorized monologue from any classical or contemporary dramatic play. Performers with music and/or movement training are encouraged to audition.

You need only attend Monday or Tuesday auditions, not both. Please bring an acting resume if you have one. Callbacks take place Thursday, Dec. 6 from 6:30-10 p.m.; actors should make themselves available during that time.

Rehearsals begin the week of Jan. 14, 2019 and are held Monday through Thursday evenings, with a possible, occasional weekend rehearsal depending on availability of actors and necessity. Showtimes are: Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, a high-school matinee will take place Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. Please make sure you have the times free before auditioning.

Written by Sophocles, "Oedipus Rex" addresses the question: Are we all blind to our past? While his city suffers from plague and ruin, Oedipus stands firm-a proud king who seems to have nothing to fear. Oedipus must solve the mystery of who murdered the previous king to save his city, and he is determined that no one will stand in his way. But in seeking the truth, his own worst nightmares come to light. Considered to be the greatest of all Greek plays, "Oedipus Rex" still has the power to shake us to the core and show us what it means to be human.

The show is being directed by Craig Rich. For audition information, contact Rich at (847) 543-2567 or crich@clcillinois.edu. To stay current on CLC Theatre, visit the department's Facebook page.
