Explore the history of 'Fiddler on the Roof' Oct. 20

The Abraham M. and Anna Seltzer Music & Cultural Arts Fund of Congregation Kneseth Israel present "The Creation of Fiddler on the Roof" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the synagogue, 330 Division St. in Elgin.

Musical theater historian Charles Troy will offer a multimedia presentation on this story behind this famous show.

Troy has delighted audiences throughout Chicago and the U.S. with previously unknown stories behind major Broadway productions.

The stories of Yiddish writer Sholom Aleichem seemed an unlikely subject for a musical.

Come see how renowned director and choreographer Jerome Robbins guided his creative team and gave birth to this "Jewish musical" that is beloved by viewers around the world.

General admission tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.ckielgin.org for $12.50 or $7.50 for age 18 or younger.

Tickets at the door are $15 or $10 for youth.

Later this fall, the Jewish Theatre of Elgin will present its inaugural production Nov. 3-4. The theater opens with "Rosenstrasse" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, and 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the synagogue. It is based on a true story of Gentile women married to Jewish men in Berlin in 1943 and how their nonviolent protest saved 1,700 men. It is written by Terry Lawrence and directed by Gareth Mann Sitz.
