See sandhill cranes with McHenry County Conservation District

Join the McHenry County Conservation District for a "VIP Sandhill Crane Experience" from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood.

Sunset in the valley below the Lost Valley Visitor Center is made even more spectacular this time of year when the sandhill cranes gather on their migratory route southward. Graceful and majestic with a haunting call, these birds are perfectly situated below the windows of the Lost Valley Overlook Room. You will start your special evening with a presentation on the natural history of cranes, followed by plenty of time to watch and listen to the birds. Finally, the evening will end with a catered dinner and camaraderie.

Registration and fee is required by Monday, Oct. 1.

Cost for this "Just for Adults" program, ages 14 and older, is $30 for county residents, $40 for nonresidents. Register online at www.MCCDistrict.org, by mail and walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, or drop-off only at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
