St. Charles library kicks off genealogy series

The St. Charles Public Library kicks off its fall genealogy series with a program, cosponsored with the St. Charles History Museum.

"Final Resting Place: The Stones Tell a Story" is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room. Professional genealogist Jane Haldeman will explain the symbols on gravestone, how to read a date on a deteriorating stone, and show how to care for an old tombstone before it completely disappears.

Haldeman has more than 20 years research experience and is the past president of the Illinois State Genealogical Society. She belongs to several local and regional genealogical groups.

Registration for all workshops is required. For more information or to register, visit www.scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.

The St. Charles Public Library is located at One South Sixth Avenue in St. Charles.
