Free Seat Check Saturday event set for Sept. 29

The Crystal Lake Police Department, in partnership with the Algonquin Police Department, McHenry County SafeKids, McHenry County Sheriff's Police, and McHenry County Department of Health, will host a unified child safety seat check event known as "Seat Check Saturday" from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 29, at Pauly Toyota, 1035 S. Route 31, Crystal Lake.

Events such as these are designed to increase awareness and the proper use of child safety seats. When used correctly, child safety seats are one of the most important tools to safeguard children when traveling in motor vehicles. Involvement in traffic crashes is a leading cause of death and serious injury to children under the age of 16.

Proper use of child safety seats is one of the simplest yet most conscientious ways parents and adult caregivers can reduce the likelihood of children being injured or killed in motor vehicle crashes.

Child passenger seat safety technicians will be available to educate and assist parents and caregivers with the correct installation and use of child safety seats in their vehicles. Technicians at the event will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding child passenger safety recommendations.

No registration or appointment is necessary to participate, but parents are asked to bring the following to the event:

• The child for which the safety seat will be used for.

• The vehicle in which the child safety seat will be installed and the owner's manual for the vehicle.

• The child safety seat to be used.

• The user's guide or owner's manual that was provided with the child safety seat.
