ECC board candidates to begin nominating petitions starting Sept. 18

Prospective candidates for the Elgin Community College District 509 Board of Trustees can begin circulating nominating petitions on Tuesday, Sept. 18, for the April 2, 2019 consolidated election in which two trustee positions will be up.

Illinois community college trustees hold a six-year term of office.

Candidates must be a U.S. citizen; be 18 years of age or older on the date of the election; be a resident of Illinois and the district for at least one year immediately preceding the election and not be a member of a common school board. The community college district includes Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300, Burlington Central Unit District 301, St. Charles Unit District 303, and Elgin Area School District U-46.

Petitions for nomination for trustee may be obtained between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Building B, Room 235 at ECC's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

A minimum of 50 signatures of registered voters residing in Community College District 509 are needed for a candidate's name to be placed on the ballot. Completed petitions may be officially returned to ECC on Dec. 10-17, 2018.

The board responsibilities include: determining the policies which guide ECC; monitoring its fiscal affairs; and overseeing the administration of the institution by the president.
