ECC celebrates 'I Dream in Color Week' Sept. 10-15

Elgin Community College will hold a series of events and activities on Monday, Sept. 10 to Friday, Sept. 15 during its first "I Dream in Color Week" celebration. All events are free, open to the public and will be held at ECC's Spartan Drive Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, unless otherwise noted.

Below is a list of events that will take place during "I Dream in Color Week":

Bright Minds Breakfast

Monday, Sept. 10

7:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Building B, Room B180/B181

Feed your soul and start your week with a free breakfast and study space.

I Dream in Color Kick-Off

Monday, Sept. 10

12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Building B, Jobe Lounge

Led by motivational speaker and entrepreneur Christopher Williams. Come join the movement!

Sin Fronteras (Without Borders): A Workshop on Building Multicultural and Multiracial Alliances and Partnerships

Tuesday, Sept. 11

1 to 2:30 p.m.

Building B, Room B180/B181

A workshop to discuss what it takes to bridge the gap; led by Ramona Houston, PhD.

School Daze and Dinner

Tuesday, Sept. 11

4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Building G, Room G100

Spartan Auditorium

Get a taste of HBCU life with food and a screening of the classic film "School Daze."

"Issa" Movement

Wednesday, Sept. 12

Building B, Room B182

1 to 2:30 p.m.

Students leading the charge for change. Join educator and activist Jasmine Hawkins for a discussion on student movements against oppression.

HBCU and You: A Town Hall Discussion for Students of Color

Thursday, Sept. 13

1 to 2:30 p.m.

Building B, Room B180/B181

Bring your truth and your voice as we discuss personal and collective strategies for success. Led by local author and HBCU alumna Traci Ellis.

The Second Annual HBCU Fair

Saturday, Sept. 15

10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Building B, Jobe Lounge

College representatives, entertainment, giveaways and FAFSA support; a celebration for the whole family!

Scholarship 2.0

Thursday, Sept. 13

5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Streamwood High School

A night for college and high school students to connect with local organizations that offer scholarships. Bring the whole family.

"I Dream in Color Week" is presented by ECC's Student Life Department, Black Student Achievers (BSA), Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS), Student Success Initiatives (SSI) Committee, School District U-46 and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
