Elgin Riverside Club names 2018 Man of the Year

The Elgin Riverside Club recently announced its 2018 Man of the Year - Gerry Werrbach.

Werrbach has been a member of the Elgin Riverside Club since 2005 and a trustee/board member since 2012. He organizes backroom rentals, manages the jar games, and pull tabs insuring product is ordered and the pull tab machine is full and manages the annual meat raffles along with Doug Horton.

Werrbach and Horton lead the Friday Fish Fry insuring teams are trained and scheduled during the fall-winter-spring season. His enthusiasm and energy is obvious in anything he does. A sense of humor, a sincere sense of ownership and professional demeanor are parts of Werrbach's strengths in support of all club activities.

Werrbach is a life-long resident of the Elgin area graduating from Elgin High School Class of 1959. After graduation, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Upon release from the Air Force, he married his sweetheart, Merilee on May 15, 1965. They are now celebrating 53 years of marriage. They have two children; daughter Wendy (Mike) Hartnett and son Jeff.

Werrbach was employed by Illinois Tool Works for 25 years and for the Elgin Area School District U-46 transportation department for 18 years. He and Merilee are now enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Outside of work and family, Werrbach has been involved in the community and church. He was chairman of St. Johns School Board and Fox Valley Lutheran Academy and has been a Boy Scout leader for 35 years with Troop 2 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Elgin. He still aspires to be a pro golfer; however, his 20 handicap is preventing that venture.

Join the Man of the Year Committee in congratulating Gerry on receiving this well deserved honor.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the club will host the 2018 Man of the Year banquet to celebrate with Werrbach, his family and friends.

Sign up at the Elgin Riverside Club, 21 Lincoln Ave. in Elgin, or by calling (847) 741-0387. Tickets are $25 per person. Deadline to sign up is Sunday, Sept. 16. Be sure to indicate choice of chicken, prime rib or vegetarian.
