Free back-to-school haircuts provided by Watch City Lodge No. 131

Watch City Lodge No. 131 (Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated) of Elgin hosted its sixth annual Back-to-School Haircut event on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Elgin Township facility.

"It was a pleasure to help get these students off to a good start for the school year!," states Elbert Hearon, president of Watch City Lodge No. 131.

In addition to the haircut, they gave each of the 30 participating students backpacks and school supplies to help then get off to a great start. Free food and refreshments were also provided.

The mission of the Watch City Lodge No. 131 is to provide services to the Elgin community throughout the year, which includes free back-to-school haircuts and school supplies for Elgin's school age males, food giveaways during various holidays, tutoring and mentoring youth, July Fourth parade participation, and picnics, as well as other social events.

Membership in Watch City Lodge No. 131 (or any Masonic Lodge) is open to all men, age 18 or older. The belief in a supreme being regardless of religion and the immortality of the soul is essential.

Potential members must be men of good report and can only be recommended by members in good standing.
