"Illinois 10 Defining Moments" is scheduled from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, in the Rasmussen Room. Presenter Gary Midkiff will discuss events from all corners of the state and connect those events to national history. Audience members will hear about the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the race riots of 1917, the 1800s new Madrid earthquakes, the Lincoln-Douglas debates and more.

A bus trip titled "Lincoln on the way to Pontiac" is slated from 9:15 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, and will leave from the central library in Schaumburg. Registration and a fee of $68 is required. Primarily taking place in Pontiac, Illinois, this trip will highlight Abraham Lincoln's contributions to our canals, roads and railroads. Tour guide Dave Clark will share his knowledge of Illinois transportation history as the group visits Lockport's historic Gaylord Building and explores Lincoln Landing. This trip includes a buffet lunch at Public Landing restaurant and free time to explore the town of Pontiac.

"Ten History Makers from Illinois" will be held from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Rasmussen Room. Historian Leslie Goddard will commemorate the state's bicentennial with a look at 10 intriguing people from Illinois, including heads of state, newsmakers, inventors and others.
