'Thirsty Thursday' event aids Palatine Township Senior Center

More than 140 people enjoyed food and beverages from Rocco Vino's Twin Lakes on Thursday, June 21, for the sixth annual summer fundraiser "Thirsty Thursday," benefiting the Palatine Township Senior Center.

Due to weather concerns the day of the event, the venue was changed from Salt Creek Twin Lakes to the Salt Creek Sports Complex, where guests were sure to stay dry. Donelda Danz, Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council board chairwoman, and Diane Iser, Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council first vice chairwoman and Thirsty Thursday committee chair, welcomed guests, acknowledged the sponsors for the evening, and thanked everyone for their flexibility in the change of venue.

There were 32 raffle baskets and four Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers tickets were a hit as a silent auction item. The most popular items included several liquor baskets, a grill and gift certificates for summer outings.

Thank you to the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council's community-minded donors, supporters and attendees who helped raise nearly $9,500 for the programs and services offered at the senior center.

Committee Chairwoman Diane Iser, said, "The seniors who utilize the Palatine Senior Center are thirsty also. They are thirsty for self-fulfilling lives, they are thirsty for access to good nutrition, and they are thirsty for social connection. Your presence here tonight quenches that thirst. I am thrilled with the success of the event. All of the hard work of the committee paid off in seeing increased funds raised that will directly impact the lives of our seniors. My gratitude goes to all of the Thirsty Thursday committee members and Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council staff."
