Cars and music highlight fun at Scoop Waukegan

Enjoy cars, music, food and fun at Scoop Waukegan 2018 Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14, in downtown Waukegan. The event also features the Taste of the Caribbean both days, and Gospel on the Beach Saturday.

The event starts with the open scoop from 6-9 p.m. Friday. The open scoop is a vehicle parade open to all participants. All cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and other vehicles are welcome. There is no registration fee required to take part in the open scoop; all rules of the road apply and no burnouts, reckless driving, or drinking and driving are permitted.

The Scoop returns Saturday with a car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a private scoop for car show participants from 4-6 p.m., and open scoop from 6-9 p.m. Car show registration is from 10 a.m. to noon, with an entry fee of $10 to enter a car in the show. Trophies will be awarded in a variety of categories at 4 p.m.

During the Scoop, enjoy food and beverages and live music, including the headliner, Waukegan's own Ivy Ford, at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the Main Stage at Genesee and Water streets. Main Stage performances Saturday include DJ Spontaneous at 11 a.m., Talkin Trash at 3 p.m., Eddie Domino & The Domino Effect at 5 p.m., and The Meteors at 7:30 p.m.

Taste of the Caribbean offers music, dancing, and food with an island flair from 5-10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday in the CLC Plaza, 100 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan.

The Taste will feature musical performances on the CLC Stage, including Lisa La Boriqua at 6 p.m. and Impacto Boricua at 7 p.m. Friday; and Garinagu Lun Awanseruni of Chicago at 1 p.m., Bachata Pura at 2 p.m., Rumbambere Chicago Cuban Band at 4:30 p.m., Hurricane Reggae Band at 6 p.m., and the Humboldt Park Orchestra at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Gospel on the Beach will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Stiner Pavilion at Waukegan Municipal Beach, 201 E. Sea Horse Drive. Performers will include Bethel Deliverance Tabernacle International, Shelby Obleton and Company, Jonathan McReynolds, Church of Joy, James Sisson & the Chosen Ones, Leah Oduro Kwarten, Christian Faith Fellowship Church of Zion, CFFC Waukegan Praise Team, and Rhema Dance Ministry.

Both days of the Scoop also include rides and games at the Waukegan Days Carnival.
