'Southern Fried Funeral' coming to West Chicago

Gallery Theater of West Chicago will present "Southern Fried Funeral" next month at its theater, 129 Main St.

The big-hearted comedy revolves around the death of Dewey Frye, which leaves his family to pick up the pieces - if they don't kill each other first.

Not only does matriarch Dorothy have to contend with sudden widowhood, but she's also faced with church-committee harpy Ozella Meeks sticking her nose in the family business, Dewey's snake-in-the-grass brother making a grab for her house, and two grown daughters reliving their childhood rivalry.

Funerals bring out the worst, the best, and the funniest in people, and the Fryes are no exception.

The show is directed by Gina Palmer and features Ben Gritton of Chicago, Carol Townsend of West Chicago, Carolyn Larsen of Wheaton, Gail Cannata of West Chicago, Jack Smith of Bloomingdale, Jami Johnson of Geneva, Jim Knapp of Warrenville, Kas Hesek of Wheaton, Lynda Porter of Lisle, R. Scott Purdy of St. Charles and Tom Ochocinski of Plainfield.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 3-5 and 10-12 at the theater. Tickets are $16 for adults and $14 for seniors and available at www.Gallerytheaterstudio.org or by calling the box office at (630) 234-5919.
