Schaumburg Township Library Becomes FamilySearch Affiliate

More digital genealogy resources are available at the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL) due to its recent designation as a FamilySearch Affiliate Library. Accessible on computers at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, as well as its branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park, the FamilySearch website allows users to search their ancestry for free. The benefit of using FamilySearch at the library lies in the amount of digital data, which is far more than a person can access from home. This service is also available to use on laptops, tablets or smart phones that are connected to the library's wi-fi network.

To use FamilySearch from within the three STDL locations, a person need only connect to the free STDL wi-fi, on either a personal laptop or one of the library's computers, then go to www.familyseach.org. Log in to Family Search with a username and password, or create an account. Once a person has accessed the site, he or she can conduct free ancestry searches with access to information that was previously only available on microfilm.

For answers to questions about FamilySearch at STDL, contact Genealogist Tony Kierna at (847) 923-3390 or akierna@stdl.org. Tony is also available for Book-a-Librarian, a 30-minute appointment which is scheduled online at www.SchaumburgLibrary.org/book-librarian or by calling the Adult Reference Desk at (847) 923-3322.
