Plane crash survivor and 'America's Got Talent' to speak at Christ Community Church

Christ Community Church invites you to hear the story of Kechi Okwuchi, survivor of a fatal plane crash and a finalist on last season's "America's Got Talent."

In 2005, 16-year-old Okwuchi was one of two survivors of the crash of Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 in Nigeria. Suffering burns on more than 65 percent of her body, she underwent more than 100 surgeries. Through it all, she found hope in her love of music. In fact, she was shocked to find her singing voice dramatically improved and her love for singing blossomed.

Last year, Okwuchi appeared on NBC's "America's Got Talent" after a friend signed her up for an audition. She captivated the show's judges, including Spice Girl Mel B, who said, "You are a survivor, you are an inspiration." She became an overnight sensation and advanced to the finals.

In addition, Okwuchi has also shared her story of hope in a 2015 TED talk.

On June 30 and July 1, Kechi Okwuchi will be a special interview guest during weekend services at Christ Community's four West suburban campuses.

Her journey of overcoming the hardships and finding hope in God will be shared at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 30, and 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday, July 1, at Christ Community's St. Charles campus, at the northwest corner of Randall and Bolcum roads, in St. Charles.

The Saturday night event will include a special Christ Community's "Got Talent" music competition.

The interview will also be shown via livestream at Christ Community's Aurora, DeKalb, and Streamwood campuses during regular weekend services.

There is no charge or ticket required to attend any of the services. For information, including service times and locations, visit ccclife.org/inspiring.
