Saint Viator Athletic Programs to Benefit from Successful Golf Outing

Saint Viator High School submission

Soaring temperatures did little to dampen the enthusiasm of nearly 100 golfers during the 2018 Saint Viator High School Million Dollar Classic Golf Outing.

Through the generosity of golfers, dinner attendees, sponsors and donors, the event raised $85,000, which will be earmarked for specific athletic department upgrades.

"I think our golfers really enjoyed the course and the format, and with plenty of water and other beverages available on the course, the heat and humidity did nothing to limit the competition or the fun," said Tom Ramsden, vice president of development for the Arlington Heights based school.

Golfers enjoyed an 18-hole layout at Ivanhoe Club, which just a week earlier had been the site of the Rustoleum Championship on the professional Web.com tour.

Proceeds from this year's Million Dollar Classic will be used to purchase a Pixellot Camera System for the school's gym and outdoor athletic fields. The multicamera system joins with Pixellot software to allow unmanned cameras to track and record all practices and games in the facilities.

"The system will be a great upgrade for our coaches, players and fans," said newly appointed Athletic Director Jason Kuffel. "Coaches can record practices and games to be uploaded to their iPads and those of the players. In addition, all games across any sport, in the gym or on the fields, can be viewed live on the NFHS Network.

"This will allow family members and alumni located anywhere else to view with an NFHS subscription."

Kuffel said that as part of the purchase, discounted subscription rates will be available.

Due to the success of the Million Dollar Classic, new scoreboards for the school's Mahoney Court will be purchased as well.

"We can't thank the participants and donors enough for their generosity," said Ramsden. "The tradition of Saint Viator calls upon Lions of the past to ensure innovation and opportunity exist for those in the future. This is true for both the classroom environment and extracurricular activities, and we look forward to integrating this new technology into our athletic programs."

After the round, eight golfers who qualified on a specific hole during the event had a shot at $1 million if they could hit a hole-in-one on a preselected hole. The quick competition resulted in no winner, but all happily moved indoors as a rainstorm was minutes away.

"With over 80 percent of our students participating in at least one sport, the Million Dollar Classic has far reaching implications for our current and future Lions," said Ramsden. "The plans for next year are already underway as we continue this important tradition in our community."

Saint Viator High School is a Catholic, college preparatory high school where tradition and innovation meet.
