Elgin and Dundee Lions to host Heritage Fest 5K Sept. 15

The Elgin and Dundee Township Lions clubs invite the community to participate in the Lions Heritage Fest 5K run and 1.6-mile walk. It will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Register now at www.LionsHeritageFest5K.com.

All proceeds from the race will benefit the Elgin and Dundee Township Lions Clubs and their charities. Participants will be encouraged to donate used eyeglasses and/or a nonperishable food item to the race. These are the two primary charities of Lions Clubs International.

Register early as the 5K run registration fee increases $5 on Sept. 1 and another $5 on race morning. Cost to order online is $30 to Sept. 1, $35 to Sept. 14. Day-of registration will cost $40. Cost for walkers is $20 anytime.

The race will begin at the corner of Oregon Avenue and South First Street in downtown West Dundee and will end at the corner of Johnson Street and South River Street in downtown East Dundee. The ending location is approximately three blocks from the start

All runners and walkers will receive a free T-shirt embossed with the race logo.

Race-day registration will open at 6:30 a.m. by the Fox River behind Around the Corner Candy.

The 5K run and 1.6-mile walk will start at 8 a.m.

All awards will be presented at the post-race celebration within the Heritage Fest Main Stage Tent, just south of the businesses on the south side of Route 72 in downtown West Dundee. A free beverage from Emmett's Brewing Co. will be included for runners that attend the party. This event will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The top three females and top three males in the run will be awarded as well as top three in each of the following age groups (male and female): 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.
