Donation for Elk Grove Township 'Double Matched' by Meijer's Simply Give Program

A recent donation to the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry grew exponentially due to it occurring on a 'double match' day during Meijer's Simply Give program, which ran from May 13 through June 17, 2018 at the Rolling Meadows location. The program allowed shoppers to donate funds to the Township Food Pantry at the register; Meijer also features one day during the campaign when all donations are matched, twice.

A donation that qualified for the double match came from the Des Plaines Community Foundation, which serves parts of Elk Grove Township with a mission to support community programs by generating and distributing financial resources. The donation was presented by board member Dick Sayad in the amount of $2,500 - which was double matched by Meijer and grew to $7,500 which will help to stock the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry with needed items.

"We are truly grateful for this very generous donation, and for the Simply Give program; the Township has been so fortunate to partner with Meijer for the last two years," said Elk Grove Township Supervisor Mike Sweeney. "The generosity of both Meijer and of Des Plaines Healthy Community Partnership Foundation will have a truly significant impact on those in need who live in our Township."

Nutritious foods for the Food Pantry reach low levels in the summer months, as donations normally decrease. The Simply Give programs help to address this seasonal need.

"At Meijer, we focus on positively impacting communities, so it's inspiring to see friends and neighbors come together to take care of hungry families throughout Elk Grove Township," said Store Director Brian Lach. "Hunger is a local problem, which is why the funds given to Simply Give stay local. That gives everyone a chance to work together to ensure no one has to go without food."
