Lovell FHCC and Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission to hold Town Hall with Vietnam War commemoration, June 20, in North Chicago, Ill.

All veterans of Vietnam War era invited to attend and be recognized for their service

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. - The Capt. James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center and the Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County, Ill. invite veterans, service members, their family members and the public to a Community Town Hall meeting at 11:15 a.m., June 20, at the Great Lakes Community Center.

The town hall follows the regular meeting of the Lake County VAC, and will begin with special recognition of veterans who served during the Vietnam era, 1955-1975. Veterans will receive lapel pins as part of a nationwide commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The commemoration began with a presidential inaugural event at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day, 2012, and will end on Veterans Day, 2025.

"We want to give as many Vietnam veterans as possible the recognition they deserve," said FHCC Interim Director Dr. Daniel Zomchek. "This town hall gives us a forum to do so, as well as allowing all veterans an opportunity to learn how they can access benefits and services they've earned."

Following the Vietnam veteran recognition, Zomchek and VAC Superintendent Andrew Tangen will provide short welcoming remarks, and then the meeting will be open for questions and discussion. Representatives from Lovell FHCC, the VAC, the regional office of the Veterans Benefits Administration, and the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will be on hand for the discussion. Refreshments will be provided as well.
