Reel in a great time at Volkening Lake Fest and Fishing Derby

Celebrate Father's Day weekend enjoying fishing, paddle boats and playtime at Schaumburg Park District's Volkening Lake.

Volkening Lake Fest and Fishing Derby is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 16, at the lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. The event features a bounce house, inflatable slide, face painting, an interactive DJ and of course, plenty of fishing and paddle boating.

A hot dog or brat, chips and can of soda or bottled water is included in the fee.

Fishing Derby participants will be divided into age groups of 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 to 17 and an adult group. Prizes will be awarded for the shortest, longest, most fish caught and most unique catch in each age group. Participants must bring their own poles and bait.

"Enjoy fresh air, fishing, a walk around scenic Volkening Lake and a hot dog picnic," said Stacy Johnson, assistant aquatics supervisor. "Families will fish together and win great prizes."

Cost is $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Pre-registration ends June 15. Day-of registration will be available at Volkening Lake for $25. Admission is free for children 2 and younger.
