Our Lady of the Wayside students take sweet outing

On Wednesday, May 23, Our Lady of the Wayside kindergarten students and their fifth-grade buddies walked into downtown Arlington Heights for a treat at Berry Yo.

The students earned this treat because of their hard work during a writing unit on crafting opinions. They worked together to answer the question, "Why you should go to Berry Yo?"

The process was to brainstorm ideas why people would want to go to Berry Yo; organize the ideas to make their opinions strong and persuasive; and use Book Creator to write the opinion piece.

Most of the students' opinions focused on eating at Berry Yo on a hot day. Kindergarten teachers sent the essays to Sheila at Berry Yo, who displayed them in her shop.

When everyone arrived at Berry Yo, students were given a choice of chocolate or vanilla and they were allowed to get sprinkles as well.

The Buddy Program at Our Lady of the Wayside is a wonderful opportunity for older and younger students to become friends and to learn from each other.
