Kane County Clerk's office offers Passport Day June 9

The Kane County Clerk's office will hold its next Passport Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the clerk's office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Bldg. B, Geneva, to process and answer questions about passport applications.

Saturday passport events are part of the clerk's accessibility program initiative to increase the accessibility of services.

"If you are planning summer or fall travel, I encourage you to come to the office on June 9 to apply for your passport," Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham said. "These Saturday passport events provide additional opportunities for residents to take advantage of services provided by the Clerk's Office outside of our normal weekday hours."

No Saturday events are currently scheduled for July and August, with the next event scheduled for September. The September event will be important as the state's extension to comply with the REAL ID federal guidelines for driver's licenses is set to expire in October.

Cunningham added, "With the possibility that your driver's license might not get you through security screenings at U.S. airports as soon as this fall, I suggest that you consider applying for a passport before the end of the summer if you plan to travel, even domestically, during this year's holiday season and beyond."

Requirements for a passport application include valid photo identification, a certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate, and a check or money order for payment, fees depend on the type of passport documents sought. Copies of birth certificates for those born in Kane County can be purchased at the clerk's office. Passport photography is available at the clerk's office for $15 per person. Applicants usually receive passports in six to eight weeks after completing an application.

Information about passport fees, acceptable forms of identification, passport photography, as well as passport application forms can be found on the Clerk's website at kanecountyclerk.org/Records/Passports/passports.aspx or by calling (630) 232-5964.

Regular hours for passport applications at the clerk's office are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
