Presence Holy Family Medical Center Awarded Respiratory Failure Certification by The Joint Commission

The administration of Presence Holy Family Medical Center today announced it has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for Respiratory Failure Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

Presence Holy Family Medical Center underwent a rigorous on-site review on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with respiratory failure-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures also were assessed.

Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission's Respiratory Failure Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:

• Compliance with consensus-based national standards

• Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care

• An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities

"Presence Holy Family Medical Center is the first long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) in the state to have earned Respiratory Failure Certification from The Joint Commission," said Yolande Wilson-Stubbs, president of Presence Holy Family Medical Center. "And we're only one of 17 certified LTACHs in the nation. This is due to the ceaseless efforts of our dedicated physicians and multidisciplinary care team to appropriately wean our patients off ventilators and insure they are receiving the highest level of care available."

"Presence Holy Family Medical Center has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients with respiratory failure," said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. "We commend Presence Holy Family Medical Center for becoming a leader in respiratory failure care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for patients in its community."

Presence Holy Family Medical Center is Northwest Chicagoland's only long-term acute care hospital.
