50+ Center Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The Hoffman Estates Park District's (HE Parks) 50+ Active Adults Club celebrated its one year anniversary on May 18 in the space that was renovated last year at the Triphahn Center (1685 W. Higgins Road).

The enhancements to the facility were made to meet future programming needs of the community, which were derived from the park district's Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP). The study revealed the growing need for programs for residents age 50 and over.

The 50+ Active Adults Center, previously four smaller rooms, was expanded into one large room with a retractable wall to separate the space into two smaller rooms. Outside the 50+ rooms is a lounge area with fireplace and sofas, which makes for a comfortable, quiet space for card games or conversation. Equipment, books, and games are stored in cabinets in the lounge area. A movable wall allows the space to be open to the lobby or closed. A game room was added too, which offers new pool tables, card tables, and pub tables thanks to funds generously donated by the Friends of HE Parks Foundation.

At the anniversary party, attendees enjoyed free custard from sponsor Culver's Frozen Custard, cake courtesy of Costco, plus door prizes, games, pool, baggo, and other activities.

For about $5 per month per person for residents, members get:

• Coffee, tea, snacks

• Expanded hours - available anytime the Triphahn Center is open, nights and weekends

• Free drop-in activities include pickleball, basketball and more

• Free services and seminars

• Discounted rates on trips and priority registration for all active members

• New Game Room with all new equipment: two billiard tables, gaming tables, pub tables, computer, dartboard

• Cable TV and internet
