Memorial Day Essay Contest winners recognized

The Mount Prospect Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1337 Essay Contest theme of "What Memorial Day Means to Me" was a resounding success with more than 100 essays submitted from Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights junior high and middle schools.

"There were many very excellent, thoughtful essays submitted, and the judging was very difficult," says VFW Essay Contest Chairman Bill Starr.

The winners are:

• First prize: $100 cash - Camille Martinez, St. Emily School

• Second prize: $75 cash - Paige Natindim, St. Emily School

• Third prize: $50 cash - Sean Pandaleon, Lincoln Junior High School

To recognize the additional excellent papers, three "Honorable Mention" papers were also identified. Honorable Mentions go to Erin Cavender, St. Emily School; Malinka Gorny, St. Emily School; and Ariana Folino, St. Emily School.
