Early bird rate for Great Western Freedom 4 run/walk ends May 30

Registration is open for runners and walkers who wish to participate in the 2018 July Fourth Great Western Freedom 4 to benefit Lazarus House.

Last year, about 400 participants started their patriotic holiday out at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles running, walking, or dashing to help their neighbors in need.

The run is a competitive 4-mile race on a USA Track & Field certified course and is part of the Fox River Trail Runners Circuit. The walk course will be on solid surface and mowed nonsolid surface. Strollers are allowed in walk only.

Runner awards will be awarded to the top three overall men and woman finishers.

The 2-mile scenic walk is suited for the whole family.

Performance T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 150 registered runners and cotton T-shirts are given to the next 250 runners and walkers.

The Kids Dash offers races for children 12 and under in several different age categories, each child will receive a small gift and awards are given to the winners in each category.

Runners and walkers can preregister at www.signmeup.com.

Preregistration fee is $28 for the run until Wednesday, May 30; $30 from June 1 to July 1.

A $3 preregistration race discount if offered to Fox River Trail Runners, Dick Pond Fast Track, CARA and Performance Runner members through Sunday, July 1. Only one discount per person.

Preregistration for the walk is $20 and children, age 9 or younger, are free for the walk only. There is no preregistration for the Kids Dash. Event-day registration is $35 for runners, $25 for walkers and $5 for the Kids Dash.

Check-in starts at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, with the run and walk starts at 8 a.m. at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W370 Dean St. in St. Charles.

Kids Dash registration continues until 8:30 a.m. and races start about 9 a.m.

Sponsorship opportunities start as low as $100 for vendor space on event day. Information can be found online at lazarushouse.net or by calling Darlene at (630) 587-2144.

All proceeds benefit Lazarus House, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit emergency shelter, Center for Transitional Living, and outreach program for men, women and children who are homeless or in crisis from Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, or western rural Kane County.
