Schaumburg St. Peter students earn honors at Illinois STEM Fair

Eight students from St. Peter Lutheran School in Schaumburg exhibited research and design investigations at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State STEM Fair on Saturday, April 28, hosted by Bradley University in Peoria.

More than 1,500 seventh- through 12th-grade students from across Illinois participated.

The eight St. Peter students were invited to compete in the fair by their judges at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Regional Competition. The scores they received at Regionals were some of the top scores at the Regional Fair.

Each of these students presented their projects to a team of judges, and each of them received awards based on the scores they received. Seventh-grade students Sarah Beck received a silver award, and Joey Macaluso and Madison Poehler received gold awards. Eighth-grade students Tori Frighetto and Landon Moeller received silver awards, and Jenna Vogt, Maia Roufis and Nikko Krause received gold awards.

Maia Roufis was recognized in the awards ceremony. Roufis' project was chosen the top project in the state of Illinois in the Consumer Science Division at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science State Exposition. She was awarded a certificate and $50 for her work.
