Join sixth annual 'Clean-Up The Streets Day' May 12

The sixth annual Tri-County Aurora/ Ward 9 "Cleanup the Streets Day" and Ward 9 scholarship announcement will be held Saturday, May 12, at 2460 S. Eola Road in the Maciano's's Pizza parking lot, half-mile south of Hafenrichter Road in Aurora.

Breakfast and sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by cleanup and scavenger hunt game from 9 to 11:15 a.m. There will be a volunteer pizza party with prizes at 11:15 a.m. For the first time, they will be awarding $5,000 in scholarships to Ward 9 students for college at 11:45 a.m.

All groups, organizations, residents and friends of Southeast Aurora are invited.

Scholarship sponsors are Hollywood Casino-Aurora, Heartland Bank and Trust Co., McDonald's- Schmitt Management.

A cleanup of Eola Road and the business corridor to beautify the community as they prepare for summer. The City of Aurora and the Alderman's Office will supply all of the bags, pickers, and hazard vests.

They have invited all of the civic and community groups in the ward including the homeowner's associations, churches, schools, and the Boys/Girls Scouts to assist.

Last year, they had over 150 volunteers and our goal this year is to have over 250 volunteers from the Ward 9/ Tri-County Aurora area.

The event is sponsored by more than 50 Aurora businesses.
