Aurora Navy League to hear about 'CSI Chicago' May 15

"CSI Chicago: The ATF Chicago Crime Gun Strike Force" will be profiled by an official of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearm agency in Montgomery on Tuesday, May 15.

Timothy W. Jones, assistant special agent in charge of the Chicago ATF office, will keynote the monthly dinner meeting of Aurora Navy League Council 247 at Grandma's Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road in Montgomery. The public is invited.

The event will open with a reception at 5:15 p.m. After dinner at 6 p.m., Jones will detail how ATF forensic analysts examine spent shell casings from crime scenes, link them to a particular firearm and then help to convict criminals with forensic evidence.

Dinner entrees include fish, chicken, or beef, with soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert and nonalcoholic drink. The cost is $20. A dinner salad, including soup, dinner rolls, dessert and nonalcoholic drink, is $12.

Jones commands the ATF Chicago Crime Gun Strike Force. Earlier, he was deputy chief of the Special Operations Division. While in charge of the Baltimore field division, Jones was assigned to the Hyattsville field office and Baltimore Federal Task Force after the civil unrest in 2015. Additionally, Jones appeared as a guest on the CNN "Wolf Blitzer Show" in 2014 after the rescue of a kidnapping victim.

A 30-year ATF veteran, Jones began his career with ATF as a special agent in Atlanta, Ga. From 2003 to 2013, he served as a member of the ATF Special Response Team. He has conducted high risk enforcement operations throughout the U.S., including Puerto Rico and Alaska.

He participated in high-profile incidents such as the arrest of the Boston Marathon bomber and the Navy Yard active shooter response. Jones' honors include the ATF Medal of Valor and ATF Hostile Action Award.

Before joining ATF, Jones served as a police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Police Department for four years. He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
