Get safety tips at Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club meeting May 9

May is Bike Safety Month and the Fox Valley Bicycle and Ski Club will offer a program on group riding etiquette and safety, as well as planning tips on leading a ride.

The community is welcome to the monthly meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Stephen Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road in Geneva. It will begin with a brief social time, followed by the program, and club announcements/business at 8 p.m.

The program will be followed by a time for questions and comments. Cyclists are encouraged to review the Illinois bicycle safety quiz challenge at www.bikesafetyquiz.com to learn about relevant safety laws and strategies for sharing the road safely. The quiz was prepared by the bicyclists advocacy group Ride Illinois.

The club, which is celebrating its 50th year, offers rides for varied distance/speed/locations/days of week. Some rides may include a breakfast, lunch or snack stop or special feature/event. Riders are expected to have equipment in good condition, wear a helmet, no radios or earphones. Nonmembers are welcome. You must sign waiver; any rider under 18 must be accompanied by adult.
