Geneva's Swedish Day 5K Lopp returns June 23

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Geneva Running Outfitters have announced the return of a 5K run to Swedish Days Festival, supported by Northwestern Medicine.

The Swedish Day 5K Lopp will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, from Gunnar Forest Preserve in Geneva, behind the Kane County Government Center at 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva.

The race will follow along the scenic Fox River in Geneva. They encourage you to tie-in with the Scandinavian theme with your running attire.

Special Swedish Days awards will go to top three male and female overall and medals in age groups from 9 and younger to 80 and older.

The $35 registration fee includes a T-shirt and pancake breakfast. In order to guarantee a shirt at packet pickup, you must register by Wednesday, June 13. Race day registration is $40.

In addition there will be a kids' 100-yard dash for ages 1 to 8 beginning at 7:15 a.m. Cost is $7.

For more information and how to register for either/both races, look for the Get Involved section at www.genevachamber.com/swedish_days.php or call Geneva Chamber at (630) 232-6060.

All registered 5K runners get a free pancake breakfast with their registration after the race at the Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St. The pancake breakfast is not included with kids dash registration.

Enjoy fresh-off-the-griddle Swedish pancakes served with a choice of toppings, sausage links, coffee or juice. All proceeds go to the church's summer youth trip. If you aren't a registered race participant, breakfast is $7 or $4 for kids under 12 at the door.
