Fox Valley Wildlife Center to host 'Wild Baby Shower' April 29

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center in Elburn invites the community to a "Wild Baby Shower" from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the center, located in the Elburn Forest Preserve, 45W061 Route 38, one mile west of Route 47.

There will be games, crafts, bake sale, wildlife ambassadors and more.

Every year, the wildlife center receives thousands of helpless baby wildlife that need help. To prepare for the amount of babies received each spring, the wildlife center hosts a baby shower.

Help support the center's wildlife babies by bringing an item from the following list:

• Monetary donations

• Wild bird seed

• Unflavored Pedialyte - generic OK

• Kitten and Puppy food - dry kibble

• Walnuts, pecans, acorns, hickory nuts, peanuts, hazelnuts; unsalted, whole or shelled

• Laundry detergent - unscented

• Bleach

• Kleenex - no lotion

• Paper towels

The Amazon wish list is the most up-to-date list of immediate needs. Items can be shipped directly to the center.

In May, help support the wildlife center at two upcoming fundraisers.

Join the "Spring Swing Fling" for a night of swing dancing and fun from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Cairo Ale House, 2009 Franciscan Way, West Chicago. Cost is $15.

Swing dance lessons start at 6:30 p.m.; no partner required. The open dance will be 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event.

All proceeds benefit the Fox Valley Wildlife Center. You can purchase tickets at the door or at www.fvwc.org/events-and-fundraising/.

The annual garage sale will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the Presbury subdivision at 39 Walnut Circle in Sugar Grove.

They are in need of gently used items for this fundraiser. If you have an item you no longer have use for and would like to make a tax-deductible donation, items can be dropped off from: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays, April 30 and May 7; and noon to 3 p.m. Fridays, May 6 and 13. All items may be dropped off at 39 Walnut Circle in Sugar Grove.

These items will not be accepted: infant or youth car seats, adult clothing or shoes, electronics, large appliances, corporate coffee mugs, reference or text books, VHS tapes or car parts.

Acceptable items include: musical instruments, costumes, kitchen and entertaining items, antiques and collectibles, art, clean bath items and towels, clean bedding and blankets, bird feeders and bird baths, books, CDs, DVDs, records, foreign money, garden items and yard art, interesting jewelry, toys, games and puzzles, knickknacks, luggage, patio furniture, pet items, sporting equipment, clean table linen, tools, indoor or outdoor, wooden furniture. Please call first if you have large furniture.
